It seems like walking is the theme of the moment, with our Assoc Member Chris Brannigan well on the way with his epic US East Coast Barefoot Walk. And now, we find ourselves marshalling the annual Naomi House overnight walk along the Clarendon Way, from Salisbury to Winchester.
Southsea Castle Rotary club provided a team of 4 people to provide marshalling through the wee hours, as brave, intrepid walkers made their way in pitch black, through the beautiful Hampshire countryside from Salisbury to Winchester.
Accompanied by only the hooting of owls and the barking of foxes, walkers completed an epic 26 mile walk from Salisbury to Winchester – and back again for the Ultimate version!
Well done to everybody who took part or who were organising this event (not easy ether in the pitch dark!). Our contribution was to marshal two way-points from 03:00 to 07:00 (‘ish, depending on replacements). Nothing like as difficult as everybody else’s role. But a challenge, nevertheless, for those who love their sleep on a Saturday night!).
The photo shows Carol, Ken and Chris (with their Army cadet corps replacements). Picture, bit grainy due to being taken just before dawn, taken by Andy.
Post the event we have receved the following from Charlotte from Naomi House
I'm taking a few moments to reflect upon this year's Clarendon Way Walk and want to say a tremendous T H A N K Y O U to you. I cannot express how grateful I am for your support by volunteering. Your generosity of time enabled us to deliver the event successfully - we couldn't have done it without you!
At present, the event has raised £85,000.00 – vital money which will help our teams care for and support seriously ill children, young people, and their families this year.
Feedback from participants has been wonderful, everyone was so grateful for the support, selection of snacks and smiles along the route. Next years event is taking place on Sunday 12th June, please do let me know if you would like to be a part of 2022s event.
Thank you once again for being part of the Naomi House & Jacksplace team. Together, with our supporters, we're able to be there for families on the good days, difficult days and last days - helping short lives shine.
